By Popular Demand....

Several friends asked me to "blog" again.
They missed my posts!
Imagine that!

So what have I been up to lately?
I am knitting my first pair of socks on two circular needles. It feels like I'm getting away with something as the two socks grow in parallel rows. The yarn is dyed using a fancy computer system so stripes and checkerboard patterns automatically form without my having to change colors.

[And now I see I need to update systems to Google Plus in order to download photos. And I had wanted to show you my socks! I'll see if I can do photos.... later.]

Two weeks ago I made my own ricotta, mozzarella and a vegan brie! Not hard. But it is a time intensive process; in particular, the vegan brie needed first 24 hours and then 16 hours to sit.

So, I wondering.....
Handmade. Homemade.
Am I a Luddite?
Or do I have too much time on my hands?

No.
And no.

I'm here using my laptop. I play games with family on my phone. I enjoy reading on my Kindle.
And there never seems to be enough time for all I want to do, write, read, draw, photograph or paint.
Never enough time for all the people I want to see.
It's also not ego....I know there are far tastier cheeses and better made socks.

I think I like process. Knowing how to do stuff. I've churned my own butter, woven my own baskets, sewn my own clothes, printed my own film in a darkroom, and more. It's that behind the scenes look at the things I use and enjoy that draws me in. I like tools and hardware stores and recipes and patterns.

Sometimes I fantasize about how I could contribute if I were a part of the crew lost on Gilligan's Island.

[Right now, it's time to go behind the scenes and figure out this photo thing.]
