Walking in Beauty
I walked through my favorite e. e. cummings poem this afternoon.
i thank You God for most this amazing
day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes
The Poole Wildlife Sanctuary is one mile from my home. For two hours, I spotted birds and wildlife, gawked at autumn foliage and watched leaves surf to the ground in a easterly breeze. I tried to breathe it all in. Then I realized I was not the main actor.
(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)
The beauty and truth fell into me. It was a moment of prayer.
how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any–lifted from the no
of all nothing–human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?
And it was a moment of awe, wonder, praise and thanksgiving.
(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
